It is late in the age of the West Wind. The Empire is in a time of troubles and many are suffering. You feel a calling to help others in their times of need. You join the Sisters of Mercy. There you are taught the elements of nursing and many practical arts. When you complete your training you are given three choices as to where you might go.

In one of the jungles that borders the Empire there is a tribe of hunter-gatherers who live the most primitive of lives. They could use any help they could get. There is a good sized village in one of the middle provinces that could use your help. You have the feeling that they are smug and self satisfied and not your sort at all. Finally there there is university town that could use another nurse. That might be best; you could find friends who are your intellectual equal.
